A 2-year-old boy riding a scooter suffered serious injuries after being hit by an SUV in the parking lot of a southwest valley residential complex this morning, Metro Police said.

Police received a report about 11:45 a.m. of an accident in the Fiesta Condos, located at 8501 W. University Ave., near Flamingo Road and Durango Drive, Officer Jose Hernandez said.

An investigation indicates the toddler was riding a scooter across the vehicle travel way when he was hit by a 2002 Dodge Durango, Metro Police said in a statement.

The child was transported to University Medical Center's Trauma Pediatric Unit, police said.

The 50-year-old man driving the SUV remained on scene and alerted authorities.

Metro's Abuse Neglect Detail also reported to the scene to investigate supervision of the toddler.
