Las Vegas firefighters battle blaze at duplex

A fire was reported Monday morning, Dec. 1, 2014, at this duplex in the 2100 block of Houston Drive, near Eastern Avenue and Charleston Boulevard, according to Las Vegas Fire & Rescue officials.

A fire this morning at a single-story duplex east of downtown Las Vegas caused about $80,000 damage and displaced seven people, fire department officials said.

No injuries were reported.

The fire was reported about 9 a.m. at the home in the 2100 block of Houston Drive, near Eastern Avenue and Charleston Boulevard. It appears the fire started in a bedroom and spread to a hallway, fire department spokesman Tim Szymanski said

When firefighters arrived, they found heavy smoke and flames coming from the home, officials said. It took about 15 minutes to bring the blaze under control, officials said.

The cause is under investigation.

The fire displaced four men, two women and a teen boy, officials said.
