Two pedestrians struck on Decatur Boulevard

Pedestrians injured

Two pedestrians were injured today when a person suspected of driving under the influence struck a man and a teenager while they were walking on the sidewalk in northern Las Vegas.

Metro Police responded about 1:35 a.m. to the collision at Decatur Boulevard near Concord Village Drive. Both pedestrians were walking northbound on the east sidewalk of Decatur when an SUV veered onto the sidewalk and struck them, police said.

The SUV then struck a light pole and spun back on to Decatur. The driver of the SUV, identified as 22-year-old Concepcion Castaneda, ran away but later returned, police said.

Both pedestrians were transported to University Medical Center, where the 26-year-old man is in serious condition and the 17-year-old male teen is being treated for minor injuries.

Castaneda was booked into the Clark County Detention Center on one count of felony DUI and one count of felony hit and run.

The accident remains under investigation.
