Three people were injured Saturday in an explosion while mixing substances to create explosive shooting range targets in the desert.
Metro Police received reports of the explosion about 8:40 a.m. in the desert expanse near Interstate 15 and Sloan Road. Three people had been in the desert mixing substances that would explode when shot, but something went wrong in the mixing process that caused an explosion, Metro spokeswoman Laura Meltzer said.
One person is in critical condition at University Medical Center, and two other people suffered minor injuries.
Metro Police is conducting a joint investigation with the Bureau of Land Management.
