Trial is delayed in California for a former Las Vegas-area lawmaker facing felony and misdemeanor charges stemming from a high-speed freeway chase and fight with police the same day he was expelled from the Nevada Assembly.
Court records show that a Friday pretrial hearing for 41-year-old Steven Brooks was postponed until Sept. 27.
Prosecutor Shannon Flaherty says Brooks' new lawyer sought time to become familiar with the case.
Brooks' new attorney is Sean O'Connor. He didn't immediately respond to a message.
Brooks pleaded not guilty in August in San Bernardino County Superior Court in Victorville to evading and obstructing an officer, throwing a substance at a police vehicle and harming a police animal during his March 28 arrest.
He could face more than five years in prison if he's convicted.
