Cabins emerge from the pine trees in Mt. Charleston, Saturday, Mar. 9, 2013. Fresh snow covered the mountain after storms passed over the Las Vegas Valley Friday, Mar. 8, 2013.

A storm system sweeping through Las Vegas on Wednesday is expected to bring brisk fall temperatures, light rain and up to three inches of snow on Mount Charleston.

Winds gusting up to 40 mph are predicted for today and Wednesday as the system moves in from the northwest, National Weather Service meteorologist Chris Stumpf said.

Mount Charleston is expected to get its first significant snow of the year on Wednesday, gathering between one and three inches at elevations above 6,500 feet, Stumpf said.

Temperatures, expected to top out today at 83 degrees, will drop to a high of 72 degrees in Las Vegas on Wednesday, with light rain hitting the valley in the afternoon and overnight.

Thursday’s forecast calls for a high of 68 degrees in the valley.
