A woman was arrested on arson charges after she allegedly set a downtown Las Vegas motel room on fire Wednesday night.

A 911 caller reported that Maureen Shoniker, 35, was acting suspiciously and threatening to hurt the manager at Tod Motor Motel, 1508 Las Vegas Blvd. South, before police arrived and noticed smoke billowing from her motel room about 9:30 p.m., Las Vegas Fire & Rescue spokesman Tim Szymanski said.

She had apparently set several items in her room on fire and stayed inside.

Officers pulled Shoniker out to safety and summoned firefighters, who extinguished the blaze before it spread to other rooms. The small fire caused an estimated $250 worth of damage.

Arson investigators arrested Shoniker, and she was taken to the Clark County Detention Center. Her bail is listed at $20,000.

Late this afternoon, Clark County prosecutors filed a first-degree arson charge against Shoniker in Las Vegas Township Justice Court.
