CSN students can now register for classes with smartphones

Long registration lines may soon become a hassle of the past with the launch of the College of Southern Nevada’s new mobile application.

CSN launched the app today, the first day of early registration for the spring 2014 semester. The app — CSN Mobile — allows students to register for classes on the go using their smartphones.

CSN Mobile is available for Apple’s iPhone and iPod Touch and Android phones. Students may download the app for free by visiting csn.edu/mobile.

In addition to registering for classes, students may use CSN Mobile to browse the community college’s course catalog and campus phone directory, look up course materials and syllabi and search for buildings on campuses using an interactive map and the phone’s GPS.

The app also lets students keep up with the latest news on campus, as well as check out CSN events and updates on social media and campus calendars.

“This is a great way for students to better connect with CSN and now they can literally do it anywhere,” Darren Divine, CSN's vice president of academic affairs, said in a statement. “Approximately 55 percent of Americans have smart phones, a figure which is rapidly growing...This is where we must reach our students.”

UNLV also has a mobile app, which launched in December 2012.

UNLV Mobile has similar functions as CSN Mobile, allowing students to look up classes and buildings, read campus news and view the latest videos from UNLV’s YouTube page. UNLV students may download UNLV Mobile from unlv.edu/mobile.
