2 trick-or-treaters report tampered candy near Reno

A sheriff's investigation is under way after two trick-or-treaters reported receiving tampered candy Thursday night in the same subdivision in northern Nevada.

Lyon County sheriff's Lt. Shawn Klanton says he's investigating reports of a pushpin and a plastic utensil being found in candy bars handed out in the Southwest Meadows subdivision in Fernley, some 30 miles east of Reno.

He says the department is taking the reports seriously but it's hard to say whether any arrests will be made at this time.

Fernley-area parents are being asked to carefully check candy for tampering.

Klanton says he hopes to release more details about the tampered candy later Friday.

The subdivision is located near Fernley High School south of downtown Fernley.
