Las Vegas lawyer who stole from client is disbarred

The Nevada Supreme Court Friday disbarred Las Vegas lawyer Ronald N. Serota for conduct "involving dishonesty, fraud, deceit and misrepresentation."

He admittedly stole $319,000 from a client in 2009 to invest in his businesses Beverage Plus and Clean Energy.

An unidentified client gave him the money to satisfy a claim by the Securities and Exchange Commission. But he took the money to promote his businesses.

Serota, who has been on suspension, asked for a lesser punishment because of mitigating circumstances. But the court said there was no evidence to show he was rehabilitated or that he actually showed remorse or that his health problems contributed to his misconduct.

The court said Serota even tried to blame his victim for the theft of the money.

The court said Serota had received a prior reprimand in 2008 for such things as the unauthorized practice of law and competence.
