The Las Vegas 51s surrendered five runs in the first inning Wednesday against visiting Round Rock in a 9-5 defeat at Cashman Field.
The 51s closed the game with five unanswered runs in the final four innings, but it wasn’t enough to erase their 9-0 deficit.
Zach Lutz and Kirk Nieuwenhuis hit home runs for Las Vegas, which scored once and loaded the bases with two outs in the ninth inning before Wilmer Flores grounded into a force out to end the game.
Flores, Brian Bixler and Kai Gronauer each had two hits for the 51s, and Lutz had three RBIs.
The teams continue their four-game series at 7 p.m. Thursday.
