Two wounded in shooting on Las Vegas street corner

Two people were wounded in a shooting late Thursday after a confrontation among a group of people on a Las Vegas street corner, Metro Police said.

Police responded about 11 p.m. to reports of multiple shots fired near North Jones Boulevard and Vegas Drive.

According to witnesses, there was a confrontation among a group of people at the intersection, which is home to several businesses, including a grocery store, a bakery and a gas station, police said.

There was a verbal altercation, and then several shots were heard, police said. Two people were struck and taken to University Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries, Officer Laura Meltzer said.

The gender of the victims was not available, but they were described as being in their late teens or early 20s.

Gang unit detectives were called to assist in the investigation, but it was unclear if the shooting was gang related and no gang members have been confirmed as being involved in the incident, Meltzer said.

Police believe there was a single shooter and are asking for anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers at 385-5555 or online at crimestoppersofnv.com.

Like the guy who killed the corrections official in Colorado, when are we going to lock up and throw the key away on individuals who have absolutely no respect for life whatsoever? They will kill over a look, verbal slight or just about any other normal daily occurrence that the rest of us face. We are constantly faced with repeat offenders repeating their crimes. I don't care if you have to put 10 in a cell, if they continue to treat the law abiding like a rabid dog, we have no choice but to lock them up until they die. Amar Harris comes to mind. It's their decision.

Hey, by all means, let's take away guns from law-abiding citizens so punks like these can have a free rein and not have to worry about running into anyone who can truly fight back. Apparently they are brazen enough to carry guns on themselves without fear of being frisked and arrested. That has to change!
