Neighborhood entrance
The dozens of Tuscany Village residents who showed up to dispute the realignment of Mohawk Drive will have to wait a few more weeks to have their opinions heard.
The Henderson Development Council issued a continuance of community comments in hopes that the disputing parties might come to a compromise before the new meeting, scheduled for April 11.
Representatives from the Tuscany Village Home Owners Association are disputing the alteration of Mohawk Drive — the main road into the neighborhood — saying that the rerouted road would increase commute time and make it more difficult and dangerous to turn left onto Lake Mead Parkway from its new intersection.
Bill Curran, the lawyer for Tuscany Village, said the alternatives the developers from the Cadence project have presented for the rerouted road are implausible.
“We need to gather more information,” he said. “We need to look at their traffic study.”
The alternatives presented by the Cadence project will increase commuters' travel by just under a mile one way.
“We’ll do whatever the planning board wants and we always have," said Mathew Driscoll, a spokesman for the Cadence project. “We feel we’ve really gone out of our way in presenting these alternatives.”

Hope they don't dig up all that ammonium perchlorate and other toxic chemicals lying below the ground as they excavate for the road. Jim Rhodes got away with the "big nasty" when he wheeled his way with the Henderson City council and especially Mayor Gibson back in the day.
Breathe deep, kids. Life is short, as it is..
The "big nasty" mentioned is only half the story. There was chemical saturation into the soil. But before any construction could be approved, the soil was filtered of all contaminates per EPA guidelines. This was a huge project and literally took years.
Please refrain from such inflammatory remarks.
The issue is whether or not to vacate existing Mohawk Drive into Tuscany and Westin Hills community.
I oppose for the simple fact that the Tuscany and Westin Hills were pioneering communities that developed and took risks in a depressed economy. Both communities are only 40% developed. To bury Tuscany and Westin Hills behind Cadence without a direct thoroughfare from Lake Mead Drive is not fair. Cadence wants their community to be highlighted with a direct access from Lake Mead Drive. Gating their community and redirecting traffic that would diminish exposure to our communities and thus limiting future homesales.
As a life long, 3rd gen resident of Henderson, I want to see growth but not at the cost of another communities well being. I recommend to keep Mohawk Drive as it exists and build around it.
Landwell Corporation would be a respectful neighbor by honoring the success of the existing communities that were there before them. Because without that pioneered success and anchor, Cadence would not be building right now.
