A Clark County Detention Center inmate died Wednesday, 10 days after a struggle with corrections officers during an attempt to subdue him, Metro Police said.
Police said the struggle took place Feb. 25. Three corrections officers and a sergeant had attempted to restrain Luis Solano, 38, who was uncooperative at the time. Solano resisted, struggling against the officers for about three minutes, police said.
Once Solano was restrained, officers realized he was unconscious and having difficulty breathing. Emergency medical personnel responded, and Solano was taken to University Medical Center Trauma in critical condition.
Police said Solano was in custody on drug-trafficking counts.
The four jailers involved have been placed on routine paid administrative leave while the incident is investigated, Metro reported.

They realized he was unconscious. Was that after they hit him on the head? Or after they strangled him?
In modern institutions of corrections there is no excuse for not videotaping the subject incident. I know many Metro officers do not like on-scene cameras.
In contrast, I would think those rolling cameras would be Metro's best ally and defense should allegations like this be made against those officers involved in the initial incident.
