A man allegedly shot and killed one adult and one child and injured a second child in his home on Saturday morning before attempting to kill himself, Metro Police officials said.

Metro Police responded to a report of a shooting about 6:20 a.m. in the 5500 block of Cotton Street, near Stewart Avenue and Christy Lane. Officers arrived to find one adult and one child were dead. Another small child was seriously injured, police said. A man identified as Manuel Mata III, 38, was also found injured with a gun, police said.

Preliminary investigations indicate that Mata had attacked the victims and then turned the gun on himself, police said. Mata had a domestic relationship with the victims, police said.

The small child and Mata were transported to University Medical Center with serious injuries; both are expected to survive, police said.

Mata was arrested and booked into Clark County Detention Center in absentia on two counts of murder with a weapon and one count of attempted murder with a weapon.
