Police standoff

A man shot multiple times by Metro Police SWAT officers after he barricaded himself inside another person's home Tuesday night has died.

The man, whose name has not been released, died Tuesday at University Medical Center. The death was confirmed by the Clark County Coroner's Office.

Two officers fired on the man, who was armed with a butcher knife and a hammer, at a residence in the 9000 block of Crystal Rock Circle, near Gilespie Street and Pebble Road, according to police.

Officers initially responded to a call of a strange man watching television in his underwear in another person's house; he refused requests by the homeowner to leave, police said.

The man had been reported missing and was seen wandering around the neighborhood, authorities said.

Neighbors were evacuated as Metro officers attempted to negotiate with the man for three to four hours.

When he refused to surrender, SWAT officers entered the house about 8 p.m. and attempted to subdue him with "low-lethal" weapons, including low-impact rounds, a stun gun and a police dog, police said.

The man continued to resist, and two officers fired their weapons as he approached them in the front part of the home, police said.

The Associated Press contributed to this story.
