Jordany Valdespin, playing in his first game after being demoted to Triple-A Las Vegas from the New York Mets, helped the 51s open the second half of the season Thursday with a 3-2 win at the Reno Aces.
The second baseman Valdespin had run-scoring singles in the second and sixth innings, and Matt den Dekker hit a solo home run in the seventh for the game-winning run.
Robert Carson pitched a scoreless ninth for the save, giving Las Vegas a leg up in the first game of an eight-game home-and-home series with Reno. The series continues daily through July 25 with games played at Cashman Field in Las Vegas starting Monday.
