Unknown liquid causes evacuation in North Las Vegas

A mysterious 50-gallon drum filled with an unknown liquid was discovered at a FedEx Ship Center on Tuesday in North Las Vegas.

North Las Vegas Fire responded to a hazardous material call about 12:15 p.m. from the business at 1121 Cheyenne Ave., near Martin Luther King Boulevard. Occupants in the garage area were evacuated, while North Las Vegas Fire and Las Vegas Fire Hazmat teams secured the area, North Las Vegas Fire spokesman Cedric Williams said.

Hazmat units tested the substance, which still remains unidentified, Williams said. They then sealed the container and prepared it for disposal. The air quality of the facility was tested and occupants were allowed to return.

A man was transported to a local hospital to rule out possible exposure concerns. No other exposures were reported, Williams said.
