A 15-year-old boy driving a moped near Lake Mead and Nellis boulevards Thursday night was killed in a hit-and-run crash, Metro Police said.

The moped was traveling west on East Meikle Lane, crossing North Ringe Lane, when it was hit on the right side by an unknown southbound vehicle, police said. The teen and a 20-year-old passenger were thrown from the moped, police said.

The moped driver was transported to University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

The Clark County Coroner’s Office identified him as Alex Martinez, 15, of Las Vegas. He died of multiple blunt force injuries, officials said.

The passenger on the moped suffered minor injuries, police said.

The driver of the other vehicle drove away without stopping to render aid or notify authorities, police said.

The incident is under investigation. The collision resulted in the 112th traffic-related fatality in Metro’s jurisdiction this year.
