Mass grave found in Central African Republic

BANGUI, Central African Republic (AP) — The spokesman for the African Union peacekeeping mission in the Central African Republic says a mass grave has been unearthed in the country's troubled capital.

Eloi Yao told The Associated Press by telephone that the area, containing around 20 bodies, was discovered on Wednesday.

He said the remains were found in a place called La Colline des Pantheres, or "Panthers' Hill," on the outskirts of Bangui.

He said the 20 bodies were scattered in a number of different holes.

Yao said that it was unclear which side in the conflict had carried out the killings. The Central African Republic is sliding perilously close to civil war, following a coup nine months ago.
