Power outage leaves 1,300 without power

An equipment failure caused a power outage this morning that left more than 1,300 NV Energy customers without electricity for nearly two hours in the area of Charleston Boulevard and First Street.

NV Energy received reports of the outage about 8:15 a.m. Crews were able to fix the problem and restore power by 9:50 a.m., officials said.

The outage stretched across downtown and Las Vegas Boulevard, affecting the Clark County Detention Center, the Stratosphere, and the Bank of America tower, among other venues.

Metro Police spokesman Jose Hernandez said the detention center’s backup generator allowed the jail to maintain operations during the outage.
