Las Vegas native dies in Alaska motorcycle crash

FAIRBANKS, Alaska — A combat veteran from Las Vegas has been identified as the victim in a weekend motorcycle crash in Alaska.

The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner reports () 32-year-old Staff Sgt. Jason Dean Calman died Saturday when he was thrown off his motorcycle after losing control of it in south Fairbanks.

U.S. Army Alaska officials say Calman was a motorcycle mentor for his unit, and was wearing all protective gear at the time of his accident.

The Army is investigating.

He joined the Army in February 2001. He has assignments at Fort Hood, Texas; Fort Irwin, Calif., and Fort Jackson, S.C., before being sent to Fort Wainwright in in February 2011.

Calman had two combat tours of Afghanistan and one in Iraq.
