51s erase three-run deficit to beat OKC

Matt den Dekker’s run-scoring single in the fifth inning today gave the Las Vegas 51s a 4-3 victory against visiting Oklahoma City and kept them one game out of first place in the Pacific Southern Division.

First-place Sacramento won earlier in the day, meaning a Las Vegas loss would have put them two games back with three weeks remaining in the Triple-A season.

Oklahoma City, the Houston Astros top affiliate, scored three times in the fourth inning for a 3-0 lead.

Las Vegas responded with two runs in each the fourth and fifth innings to take three of four games in the series.

In the fourth, den Dekker doubled and scored on a RBI single from Kirk Nieuwenhuis. Brian Bixler’s RBI groundout scored the other run.

In the fifth, Eric Campbell had a sacrifice fly RBI and de Dekker’s single scored Lucas Duda with the winning run.

Four Las Vegas relief pitchers held Oklahoma City hitless in the final three innings. One night after limiting the Redhawks to four hits, the 51s surrendered just three today.

Monday, Las Vegas hosts New Orleans to open a series.
