People attend funeral prayers of suicide attack victims, in Quetta, Pakistan, Thursday, Aug. 8, 2013. A suicide bomber attacked a funeral for a policeman in southwestern Pakistan on Thursday, killing at least tens people, including a senior police officer, and wounding over 60, police said.

QUETTA, Pakistan — Police say gunmen have shot and killed six people and wounded 15 in an attack on a former lawmaker outside a mosque in southwestern Pakistan.

Police officer Bashir Ahmad Barohi says it seems opponents of a former provincial minister Ali Madad Jatak were involved in the attack Friday in Quetta, the capital of southwestern Baluchistan province. Jatak escaped unharmed.

Barohi says the attack took place when Jatak and a group of his supporters were coming out of the mosque after sunrise prayers marking the start of the Muslim holiday of Eid al-Fitr at the end of the holy month of Ramadan.

The attack came a day after a Taliban suicide bomber attacked a police officer's funeral in Quetta, killing 30 people, including a senior officer.
