Tax Commission says no to softball sponsor seeking exempt status

CARSON CITY — A Las Vegas group that sponsors softball tournaments struck out in its bid to gain tax-exempt status enjoyed by religious, charitable and educational organizations.

Senior Deputy Attorney General Andrea Nichols told the Nevada Tax Commission today that the group, United States Specialty Sports Association Nevada, is a social organization sponsored by Budweiser and Bud Lite.

The commission agreed with Nichols and rejected the application.

Commission Chairman Bob Barengo said USSSA Nevada wanted tax exemptions for such things as uniforms and items sold during games.
