One person burned, another suffers smoke inhalation in house fire

Updated Thursday, Aug. 1, 2013 | 5:05 p.m.

Two people were taken to a hospital with minor injuries today in a two-alarm house fire near Stewart Avenue and Pecos Road.

One person suffered minor burns and the other smoke inhalation in the fire about 1:30 p.m. at 129 Vallejo Ave., Las Vegas Fire & Rescue spokesman Tim Szymanski said.

The wind spread the fire to a neighboring home, Szymanski said, causing an estimated $250,000 in damage. Two vehicles — an SUV and a van — were also heavily damaged, he said.

A total of five people were evacuated from both homes, Szymanksi said. The cause of the fire appears to be accidental, according to Szymanski, but what started it is still undetermined.
