Las Vegas schoolteachers can apply for Junior League grants until Sept. 13

Las Vegas Valley schoolteachers are encouraged to apply for $30,000 in grant money from the Junior League of Las Vegas.

Teachers at all grade levels and from both public and private schools are welcome to apply for up to $1,000 each in education grants. The grants were made possible by a $15,000 donation from the Junior League, a women’s volunteer organization, and another $15,000 contribution from NV Energy.

Since 1985, the Junior League has contributed about $480,000 to Clark County schools to fund classroom initiatives in gardening, literacy, forensic science and digital photography.

“Awarding education grants is just one way that the Junior League of Las Vegas is committed to helping develop the potential of our local community and its residents,” Junior League President Michelle Eckmann said in a press release. “This year, thanks to NV Energy, we are able to broaden our reach and fund even more programs that, as schools continue to face budget cuts, may not otherwise be possible.”

Teachers may download grant applications from the Junior League website. The grant application deadline is Sept. 13. Recipients are expected to be announced by Oct. 1.
