Several Las Vegas businesses have said a man claiming to be associated with the UNLV football team has been soliciting money.
“This person is not a student-athlete at UNLV and is not affiliated with the Athletics Department in any way,” the university said in a news release. “No UNLV student-athlete will ever directly solicit donations on behalf of the school.”
The school advises business owners to report such solicitations to police.

Cold calling solicitors should NEVER be trusted. In this town where there are scams every minute I wouldn't trust anyone who calls or knocks on my door for a donation. Send it directly to the Red Cross or ASPCA. Anyone knocking on your door is likely a paid opportunist trying to scam you out of money.
He should at least wait till they win a game first. SMH.
Bad strategy. It would probably be easier to illegally solicit for the basketball team.
Well we know it wasn't Jim Livengood so that helps narrow down the list of possible suspects ...
Darn, I fell for it. They tied it in with St. Jude (the saint, not the ranch) and when they used UNLV football and "lost causes" in the same pitch I was suckered.
