Suspect shot
A man was shot as he allegedly tried to break into a home near Ann Road and Simmons Street in North Las Vegas on Thursday morning.
North Las Vegas Police preliminary investigations indicate that the 66-year-old homeowner shot Shunta Hilliard, 34, before he could allegedly enter the house. Hilliard ran from the property and forced his way into another home a half-mile away in the 1700 block of Victoria Terrace Avenue.
Police officials said a mother and her two children, a 5-year-old and an infant, were upstairs when Hilliard kicked the front door in. Police were alerted to the second home invasion around 9 a.m., but he fled before police arrived.
The suspect fled to a nearby business, where he called for someone to take him to a hospital, where he was later arrested. In addition to the home invasion, Hilliard was wanted for four felony warrants through Metro Police.
Hilliard remains hospitalized in serious condition and is in Metro Police custody for the warrants, North Las Vegas Police officials said.

Don't just shoot them once, keep shooting till they
quit moving!!!
The 66 year old needs to be awarded a medal.
Yeah thats what we need, more gu.....ooops nevermind.
I read in other media that first homeowner did not call the police. If that turns out to be true then the 66 year old needs to be charged. If the police had been called the suspect may not have had the chance to break into the second house.
Every month American Rifleman magazine publishes one page of citizens who defended themselves or someone else, most with firearms. These are real accounts verified by police and other reports. None glorify any of the victims or assailants, they merely state the facts. It is obvious that the purpose is to counter the one sided - all guns are bad all the time - and law abiding gun owners are the problem - tripe we seem, hear and read all the time.
They are right not to do anything but state the facts, the facts speak for themselves.
Take a photo of Hilliard--poster child for homeowners and prosecutors. Just a sample of what's out there. Says the Perp didn't enter the first home. Don't you dare consider charges against her/him.
dirtbags like "shunta" are the reason so many Americans own firearms in the first place.
Get rid of the "shuntas" of the world and we can at least reduce the demand for guns.
