Man convicted in 2009 slaying at Las Vegas bar

A man was convicted Monday of murder and extortion in the stabbing death of of Wen Jun Li at the Forbes KTV Bar and Restaurant in Las Vegas in July 2009.

Xiao Ye Bai was convicted of conspiracy to commit kidnapping, first-degree kidnapping, extortionate collection of debt, extortion, conspiracy to commit murder, burglary while in possession of a deadly weapon, murder with the use of a deadly weapon and two counts of attempted murder with a deadly weapon.

A 2009 arrest report alleges that Bai stabbed two patrons and Li at the bar. Bai and another person also threatened to kill Li if he did not pay them $10,000, police said. They allegedly forced Li’s ex-wife to a bank to withdraw cash, the arrest report said.

A penalty hearing for Bai will begin at 1 p.m. on Tuesday. He could face the death penalty.
