After striking out on his own little more than a year ago, Jon Porter — former representative for Nevada’s 3rd Congressional District — is merging his lobbying shop with a Las Vegas-based gaming law firm to form Porter Gordon Silver communications, the new partnership announced today.

The new team, which has been in the works since last fall, is called Porter Gordon Silver after its three star players — Porter and Jerry Gordon and Jeff Silver, the gaming attorneys at the helm of Gordon/Silver.

Porter, who splits time between Las Vegas and Washington, D.C., has lobbied chiefly for the gaming industry since leaving Congress at the end of 2008. His highest-profile affiliation of late is with the Poker Players Alliance, which has been lobbying Congress to legalize Internet poker. Porter has worked for the group as a consultant.

Both sides are calling it a natural partnership.

The new firm has outlets in Las Vegas, Reno, Phoenix and Washington, D.C.
