Mayor Goodman to open city’s new Business Success Center

Las Vegas Mayor Carolyn Goodman will be among local business, government and university leaders on hand Friday to formally open a new one-stop resource center to support entrepreneurs and economic development.

Goodman will be joined by Ward 5 Councilman Ricki Y. Barlow at 10:30 a.m. Friday at a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new Business Success Center at the Urban Chamber of Commerce in Enterprise Park, 1951 Stella Lake St.

The event will be followed by an Urban Chamber Block Party.

The new Business Success Center, which is managed by the Nevada Small Business Development Center, is part of the city’s business incubator program.

Services include professional business consulting, microloans, entrepreneurial training, economic and demographic analyses, regional business and economic research, environmental and energy-efficiency assistance, student support and learning, and assistance obtaining government grants and contracts.

The Business Success Center will be part of the Nevada Small Business Development Center’s network of support offices in Southern Nevada.

The Nevada Small Business Development Center is funded in part through a cooperative agreement with the U.S. Small Business Administration.

Others expected to attend the event include:

• University President Marc Johnson and College of Business Dean Greg Mosier from the University of Nevada, Reno.

• Clariss Cota, chair of business and law, and Kevin Raiford, entrepreneurship incubator advisor, at the College of Southern Nevada.

• Ed Cadena, Nevada district director for the U.S. Small Business Administration.

• Senior Deputy Treasurer Sheila Salehian of the Nevada treasurer’s office.

• Shaundell Newsome, Urban Chamber of Commerce board member and CEO of Sumnu Marketing.

Other project partners expected to be at the event will be from the following agencies: UNLV, Las Vegas Economic and Urban Development Department, Nevada Procurement Outreach Program, Nevada MicroEnterprise Initiative, SCORE, Veterans Business Outreach Center and the Nevada Department of Transportation.
