2-year-old burned

A 20-year-old Las Vegas man has been arrested on child abuse counts after multiple burns were found on the body of his 2-year-old stepson, Metro Police said Thursday.

Wednesday evening, officers responded to a home in the 4800 block of Spencer Street near Tropicana Avenue after receiving a report of a child in need of medical attention, according to a police statement.

The officers found a 2-year-old boy with multiple burn marks on his body, police said, and further investigation revealed the boy had been left in the care of his stepfather, Demar Barnes, while his biological mother was out of town.

On her return, the mother found the burns and sought medical attention for her son, police said.

Barnes was arrested Thursday and booked into the Clark County Detention, where he is being held without bail on counts of child abuse with substantial bodily harm and child neglect with substantial bodily harm.
