Virtual library helps the Las Vegas-Clark County Library District stay current

Image

The Digital Bookmobile will be at the Windmill Library on March 30 and 31.

Electronic media and online shopping have moved libraries closer to the endangered species category and nearly erased bookstores from the urban/suburban landscape. But anyone who thinks libraries are too antiquated in the Kindle age should dust off that library card and check out, literally, the digital vault of electronic books, music, audio books and videos available from the Las Vegas-Clark County Library District.

Checkouts from the virtual library are free with a valid library card. Just download the material and read, watch or listen to it offline during the designated loan period (a week to 21 days for books, three days to a week for music and videos). The content expires when the loan period is complete. The eMedia Catalogue can be accessed from the website, lvccld.org, as can instructions for downloading compatible software. And if that seems too daunting, visit the Digital Bookmobile, in town to demonstrate digital library downloads in person March 30 and 31, from 9:30 a.m.-4 p.m. at Windmill Library, 7060 W. Windmill Lane.
