Accident scene

The 11-year-old girl fatally struck by a school bus Friday afternoon has been identified as Kaylee Renee Derks, according to the Clark County Coroner’s Office.

The coroner ruled Kaylee’s death an accident, caused by multiple blunt-force injuries.

The accident happened about 4 p.m. Friday as the bus driver, identified as Leslie Rice, was making a right turn onto Pebble Rock Drive, Metro Police said. That location is near Ann Road in the northwest valley.

Police said Kaylee may have fallen under the school bus as it turned the corner. The bus driver and three other students on board were not injured.

The accident marked the 27th fatal traffic collision in Metro’s jurisdiction this year. By Saturday, a memorial of flowers, cards and stuffed animals had formed in Kaylee’s honor at the scene.
