A list of Las Vegas sports books worth stopping by for the NCAA Tournament

A list of places to bet and watch March Madness

Sports books will print more tickets this weekend than any other time this year.

It’s almost as if everyone in Las Vegas, no matter if they’re locals or tourists, will walk around with a few straight bets or parlays in their pocket. It’s the nature of March Madness in Sin City.

The only question becomes where they should put in their wagers.

Or better yet, where are the best places to both bet on the games and watch them play out? The Las Vegas Sun has that covered.

Click through below for a list of sports books worth checking out during the NCAA Tournament.

      LVH Superbook

They don’t call it “Hoops Central” during the NCAA Tournament for no reason.

The newly minted LVH — Las Vegas Hotel and Casino, previously known as the Las Vegas Hilton, opens its 1,500-seat theater for March Madness and shows all of the games on massive high-definition screens. The Superbook also holds giveaways, $2 drink specials and perhaps the largest betting menu in town during the tournament.

    • South Point

Locals flock to the South Point, as the property a few miles down Las Vegas Boulevard from the Strip opens one of its ballrooms to show all the NCAA Tournament games.

Race bettors can flock to the South Point, too, without the annoyance of all the sports fans hindering their ability to get bets in. The South Point took an innovative approach in separating its books into two — one for racing and one for sports.

    • The Venetian

The Venetian and Cantor Gaming sunk millions of dollars into updating the space that once held an outdated sports book.

It’s the crown jewel of Cantor’s seven sports books at the moment. The Venetian is a now a must-visit for any dedicated sports bettor in town.

    • Wynn

Look for Wynn to release many sports lines before any other sports book in town.

Race and sports book director Johnny Avello was the first to put out odds on the opening weekend of the NCAA Tournament, and the expediency will continue. The book itself is one of the more comfortable spaces in town with easy access to the parking garage.

    • Caesars Palace

To feel the action at the center of the Strip during the NCAA Tournament, Caesars Palace is the place to go.

The sports book has remained in the middle of the casino for many years, which attracts more passerby traffic than anywhere else. Watching a game at Caesars is a source of nostalgia for anyone who has frequented Vegas.

    • NFL football fans kick back and relax while watching NFL football games Sunday afternoon at the Mirage Race & Sports Book on October 16, 2011.

      The Mirage

It’s difficult to find a bigger space on the Strip than the Mirage’s staple 10,000-square-foot sports book.

With nearly 300 seats and 30 big-screen televisions, the book has managed to stay relevant since it opened more than two decades ago. Expect a lively atmosphere among a group consisting predominantly of tourists in town to have a good time while watching the action.

    • Hooters

Hooters, or any of the 48 Leroy's books in Southern Nevada, are worth visiting for one primary reason — convenience.

It doesn’t get much easier than the digital betting kiosks Leroy's has stationed at each of its properties. Signing up for a Leroy's mobile account and betting from a cellular phone is also a luxury.

    • Fitzgeralds

Although not as popular as competing books on the Strip or those in predominantly local areas, downtown Las Vegas has plenty of shops worth checking out.

None are better than the Lucky’s-operated book at Fitzgeralds, which will soon be rebranded as The D. Run by legendary Vegas oddsmaker Jimmy Vaccaro, Lucky’s offers one of the more expansive betting menus in town and higher-paying parlay cards.

    • Green Valley Ranch

There’s a reason the majority of casual, local bettors would list a Station Casino property as their home sports book.

Stations spared no expense in making its sports books attractive to anyone who walks in. Green Valley Ranch is among its best spots, with five high-definition projection screens overlooking a large seating area.
