A fire that did an estimated $760,000 damage to a Henderson condominium complex on Monday was caused by carelessly discarded smoking material, a preliminary Henderson Fire Department investigation found.
One resident was transported to the hospital with minor injuries, officials said.
Fire officials said high winds Monday afternoon fueled the blaze at the Mission Ridge condominiums at Carnegie Street and Horizon Ridge Parkway, just south of Green Valley Ranch Resort.
Firefighters responded to the alarm at about 4:25 p.m. and found heavy smoke and flames coming from the upstairs windows of a two story building, fire department officials said.
Crews trying to get inside were initially driven back by the heat and smoke, and the fire took several hours to extinguish, officials said.
The blaze moved quickly through the attic of the second floor units, the fire department reported. The Clark County Fire Department also responded to the two-alarm fire, officials said.
The Red Cross is assisting several displaced residents with shelter and other needs, officials said.
