Pahrump school employee arrested after admitting to sex with student

A female school employee in Pahrump was arrested Friday for engaging in a sexual relationship with a 16-year-old male student, Nye County Sheriff’s officials said.

Amanda McGough, 31, worked as a substitute teacher and administrative aide at Pahrump Valley High and Rosemary Clark Middle School and had been involved with the student since April, officials said.

Officials said the investigation began on Friday when the student-teacher relationship was brought to the attention of Nye County Sheriff’s officials.

McGough admitted to the relationship when she was questioned about it, officials said.

McGough was booked at the Nye County Detention Center on charges of unlawful sexual conduct between a school employee and pupil, open and gross lewdness and unlawful use of a minor as a subject of sexual portrayal, officials said.

Officials said that while state law says it is legal for a 16-year-old to have consensual sex with adults, it prohibits relationships with teachers.
