One person dead in multivehicle accident in western valley

One person is dead after a multivehicle accident this afternoon in the western valley, according to Metro Police.

Metro Police responded at 1:57 p.m. to a collision involving four to six vehicles at the intersection of Red Hills Road and Fort Apache Avenue, said Metro spokesman Marcus Martin. One person was thrown from a Volkswagen Beetle and pronounced dead on the scene, he added.

Traffic in the area is being blocked as police work to clear the area, Martin said.

Beyond the deceased person, there have been no reports of anyone else being transported as a result of injuries, Martin said.
