Mother, child dead after wreck on I-15

A mother and 3-year-old child died and three other members of the family were injured when their Ford F-250 truck rolled over on Interstate 15 near Apex on Wednesday.

Nevada Highway Patrol Trooper Jeremie Elliott said the family of five from Logandale had been heading north on I-15 around 4:30 p.m. when something caused the truck carrying a homemade trailer to flip over.

The force of the accident ejected the mother from the vehicle, where she was pronounced dead on the scene, Elliott said. Her 3-year-old child was also pronounced dead on the scene, Elliott said.

Another child was transported by helicopter to University Medical Center, Elliott said. Elliott said the father, who was driving the truck, and another child were rushed to University Medical Center by ground.

Elliott said the cause of the accident is still under investigation, but it was likely a blown tire.

Elliott said traffic on I-15 North is being diverted to Highway 604 North.
