A Las Vegas billionaire with ties to Newt Gingrich has given $5 million to an independent group backing the former House Speaker's presidential bid.
A person familiar with the situation said casino mogul Sheldon Adelson made the contribution Friday to Winning Our Future, a pro-Gingrich super PAC. The person said Adelson would spend heavily to assist whichever candidate wins the Republican nomination.
Adelson is a longtime supporter of GOP candidates and has been a friend and backer of Gingrich for many years.
Gingrich's campaign has struggled since a super PAC supporting Mitt Romney spent $3 million on ads attacking him in Iowa.
The Washington Post first reported the $5 million contribution. Politico reported last month that Adelson was prepared to spend $20 million to help Gingrich.

I love that they keep using Sheldon's picture with the band aid on his forehead...although it does blend with his pasty complexion.
I've been a fan of Mr. Adelson for his business acumen but I think this time, he missed the ball by picking the wrong guy.
"Prepared to spend $20 Million for Gingrich".
What a waste.
Mr. Gingrich would never make it.
Spend the money somewhere else.
Jesus Christ inspired Brother Adelson to cough up $5 million (20 million sheckels) to Elder Gingrich's holy crusade. When Elder Newt called Palestinians "invented peoples", it was music to the ears of Brother Adelson. After all, what else would Brother Adelson do with the money, give it to his workers???

Give it to charity Shel.
Money better spent.
You know the left is scared of Newt when a news media organization that is owned lock, stock and ink by the Democratic party, makes this its headline!!
Go Mr Adelson!!
With all the worthy causes in Nevada - Giving Money to any Politician is a Terrible waste of resources. Tax The Rich - if this is how they spend their money.
Talk about throwing money down a rat hole.
I still have my vote and it will not be for a GOP candidate This is like a person donating big $$$ to the clown school. Watching these candidates debate is like a person herding cats!!!. Who wants the Insane running the Insane asylum. I am sure $5 million could be spent in a much better way.
Here we go again. The leftists, who are such ardent fans of "diversity," cannot put up with it unless it meets their Socialistic agenda. I don't see the crackpots complaining about and or condeming George Soros who makes Adelson look like a piker when it comes to financing a radical political agenda. Soros, who manipulates currrency and causes the downfall of national economies, wants to impose European style rules and regulations on all of us. Adelson builds; Soros tears down. Adelson creates 10's of 1,000's of jobs; Soros creates havoc and costs 10's of 1,000's their jobs. Those who espouse the "politics of envy" and ignore blood-suckers such as Soros in their quest to keep their seats on the gravy train are in for a rude awakening if he ever succeeds. They will be doomed to pleading for handouts from government drones instead of being able to control their own lives. Perhaps this is the best they can hope for in their uninspired and dreadful lives.
I would rather see 5 million given to support the schools in Nevada that a cheap, fat, lying politican.
Dipstick address the Soro's comment please. Or don't you have a clue who he is?
this is exactly why Adelson --- and Wynn for that matter --- won't get a dime of my hard earned cash. I don't want to support those who are against my interests.
vegas_tom: so basically what your saying is that if any company doesn't fit your interests you won't support there company or whatever. If this is correct please look around your home and see if there is anything made in China. If so do you support the Chinese?
Not sure why Soros is part of this article but just from my point of view any person of wealth who gives money to PAC's is just fostering the corruption in politics. Whether its Soros or Adelson I really don't care and I'm not sure why this needs to be about "leftists" or radical righties...
Money in politics corrupts the system. Sheldon and Soros are contributing to that corruption.
"so basically what your saying is that if any company doesn't fit your interests you won't support there company or whatever."
that's correct. I also limit my shopping at Walmart to just Mobil1 oil.
I try to buy American when I can but "gentlemen" like Adelson sold us out for profits, so yes --- there are Chinese products in my house. It's a shame, too.
dennis you're correct in remaining on topic but the sorry case of media will never bring up soros, which is a shame because it doesn't give those that don't follow politics the true picture. Believe it though soros is way sorrier than adelson.
vegas_tom its a sad state of affairs that the chinese products infiltrate out lives. None of us can truly say we haven't bought chinese and your right it is a shame.
Gee, what a lovely campaign contribution of $5 million bucks....
Well, all the loyal Las Vegas Sands customers sure ended up with a slap in the face when the comp rewards program was discontinued which included lost future reservation comps past the deadline day....
Now Winning Our Future gets a nice $5 MILLION COMP from Las Vegas Sands itself....
If I were a loyal Las Vegas Sands customer that had all my comps discontinued, I would now feel like they knocked my teeth thru the back of my neck following the previous slap in the face.
$5 Mil on Newt??
Good thing Sheldon Adelson can afford to lose a bet..
Talk about wasting 5 million bucks. He'd of been better off taking that 5 million to The Olympic Garden.
But he won't pay his security guys their overtime? You gotta love Shelly.
And to the highest bidder goes the Republican nominee!
