The Attic says goodbye with a liquidation sale

The Attic

The substation next to the former location of the Attic exploded and caught fire July 11, 2010, destroying Mayra Politis’ longstanding vintage store. ’

“All my dreams, all my plans to enjoy the revitalization of the area are shot.”

That's quite the understatement by Mayra Politis, who opened the Attic on Main Street before there was ever an Arts District. She’s closing the store indefinitely February 29 due to the financial hit she took when a 2010 explosion at NV Energy’s substation impaired her building’s structure, causing, she says, $1.1 million in damages. Politis, who temporarily relocated her business across the street (to 1018 S. Main St.), says she was only insured up to $600,000 and filed a lawsuit against the utility company in December.

“If I could get a settlement, I’d love to rebuild and go back. That’s my goal.”

Vintage lovers and disco fashionistas can pay their final respects, purchasing items at half price, during the Attic’s liquidation sale that begins February 23.
