A 23-year-old motorcyclist who died Sunday morning after crashing into a van has been identified as Ryan Joseph Callahan, according to the Clark County Coroner’s Office.

The coroner said Callahan was a resident at Nellis Air Force Base, but Nellis officials have not been authorized to release his personal information.

The accident happened at 11:51 a.m. at the intersection of Torrey Pines Drive and Alexander Road in the western valley, Metro Police said.

The preliminary investigation indicated Callahan was riding a 2002 Honda VTR100F west on Alexander Road in the left travel lane, east of Torrey Pines Drive, when he lost control. The bike fell over and struck the side of a 2004 Kia Sedona traveling north on Torrey Pines, police said.

Callahan, who was thrown to the roadway, was transported to University Medical Center’s trauma unit and pronounced dead a short time later, police said.

The 68-year-old driver of the Kia and her two elderly passengers did not report injuries.
