137 police shots, 2 dead: Many questions in Ohio

CLEVELAND — A chase that ended with 13 officers firing 137 rounds, killing two people, began with a pop — perhaps a gunshot or backfire from a car speeding past police headquarters. For the next 25 minutes late in the night of Nov. 29, the car crisscrossed Cleveland tailed by officers, headed along Interstate 90 and wound up near the back entrance of a school in East Cleveland, where police opened fire. Police don't know why the driver, Timothy Russell, 43, refused to stop. Russell had a criminal record including convictions for receiving stolen property and robbery. His passenger, Malissa ...

  1. The internal investigation will find that the officers shot in self defense. Let's see, more training may be needed. This does not sound like self defense to me. It sounds more like murder.

  2. Just another story of police out of control. The US government and the police don't serve or protect.

137 shots? Get real! At six shots per officer,

this calculates to 23 offices FULLY UNLOADING THEIR GUNS.

Look at the bullet pattern. This was clearly murder.

30 police cars? What a waste of tax payers money. They had the license plates. They just could have gotten the car and driver later.

How many people did the police put at risk during this stupid chase?

  3. "As the chase ended along hillside driveways heading to the school in John D. Rockefeller's old neighborhood, Russell allegedly rammed a patrol car and drove toward an officer on foot." Oh, but its the cops fault, right????

  4. 2 more career criminals off the planet. Stop means stop. Red light, green light. After that your life is in danger. It didn't work out for these guys.

Career criminals are the single worst plight on society.

  5. THE POLICE ARE OUT OF CONTROL!

Lol. One minute we need more protection the next the police have too much power. If this had been the Sandy Hook shooter on the way to the school, everyone would be saying the same thing.
"Just a good kid shot by police."

You bleeding heart hippies are just ridiculous.

  6. "2 more career criminals off the planet."

TomD -- unarmed and sitting in their car, Metro's favorite scenario. Another despicable post from you.

  7. I wonder how many of those cars are dodge chargers! There about 35 grand aren't they before the law enforcement add on's.

  8. A couple of convicted criminals dead...shot while in commission of yet another crime...yawn.
nice job LE, keep up the good work.

  9. Bunch of chicken officers. Murdering two people sitting in a car is not the way one apprehends a suspect. And we had Metro kill a vet off his meds in the parking space of where he lived with no way to get out of the space as cops blocked the car. He was murdered as well. Where the hell do they find these people? Yeah, bad guys should be caught - or maybe all cops think they're Judge Dredd.

  10. Morale is at an all time low! Well of course it is when this type of intimidation can cause a police chief and city government to back off - for fear of not getting a political endorsement the next time an election is up.

This shooting happened last month! It DOES need to be investigated...and I wonder if the police officers must give a statement and explain their actions?

Unbelievable and damaging to the professionals

  11. if the cops have you pulled over for a traffic stop you better pray there are no car backfires, balloons popping or fireworks going off because that means you are about to die in a shower of hot lead.

  12. Like I am told "If you don't like your job, try another one".
    That includes everyone.

  13. I'd like to know a little more. I've read enough that they had cause to shot the driver, shot to stop. The passenger could have been an innocent victim, an abductee. So she had a record. Like someone who once turned a trick can never be raped? I don't know that a hail of bullets from 13 officers was necessary to kill every living thing anywhere near the vehicle, but MAYBE. Refusal to stop is NOT cause. Ramming and driving at / over people is.
