A house fire Thursday morning in the northwest valley sent three people to the hospital and nearly killed a puppy.

North Las Vegas firefighters arrived at 1116 Bull Run Ave. minutes after the fire was reported about 9:28 a.m., according to a news release from the city of North Las Vegas. Smoke was pouring from the front of the single-story home as neighbors and bystanders used water hoses in an attempt to control the fire.

A family of two adults and five children evacuated before firefighters arrived but reported that the family puppy was still inside, said Cpt. Cedric Williams. Firefighters found the living room and kitchen engulfed in fire and put out the flames within five minutes, Williams said.

Firefighters also found and treated the puppy, which was near death but now appears stable, he added.

Two minors and one adult were treated on the scene and transported to University Medical Center for apparent smoke inhalation and minor burns.

The fire remains under investigation. The family has been displaced and is receiving assistance from the Red Cross.

Eight units, including one from Las Vegas Fire & Rescue, and 30 firefighters fought the fire, Williams said.
