Applicants line up to replace Judges Donald Mosley, Kathy Hardcastle

CARSON CITY — Sixteen attorneys have applied to replace Clark County District Judges Donald Mosley and Kathy Hardcastle who both retired.

The Nevada Commission on Judicial Selection said 10 lawyers applied for both judgeships. The deadline for the applications was Friday.

The applicants for both vacancies were Las Vegas lawyers Michael Davidson, 58, Craig B. Friedberg, 54, Bruce Gale, 57, Mark L. Gentile, 52, David Huston, 68, Russell Marsh, 50, Robert Spretnak, 51, John G. Watkins, 65 and John H. Wright, 44.

Caren Cafferata-Jenkins, 53, from Carson City also applied for both positions.

Applying only to succeed Judge Hardcastle were Las Vegas lawyers Soonhee A. B. Bailey, 43, Kerry Louise Earley, 60, and Troy E. Peyton, 52. North Las Vegas applicants were Marsha Kimble-Simms, 51 and Michael C. Mills, 55.

The applicant to replace Mosley was Adriana Escobar, 53, of Las Vegas.

The selection commission will conduct background investigations and interviews tentatively set for June 6-7 in Las Vegas. The commission will nominate three candidates for each judgeship to Gov. Brian Sandoval who will make the appointments.

The commission will accept written comments about the qualification of the applicants until May 11. They should be addressed to Commission Staff Member Myrna Byrd, 200 Lewis Ave., 17th floor, Las Vegas 89101.

Mosley served 33 years before retiring from Department 14 on March 3. Hardcastle, elected in 1996, stepped down April 13 from Department 4.
