The Clark County Coroner’s Office has identified a young boy who was fatally shot by an 11-year-old relative who thought the gun was a toy.

Robert Martin II, 6, of Henderson, died from a gunshot wound to the chest, the coroner said. His death was ruled a homicide.

Henderson Police said the boys were brought to a house in the 500 block of Lairmont Drive off MacDonald Ranch Drive about 1:50 p.m. Sunday. The boys went into the unfinished home's playroom, where the 11-year-old boy pulled the gun from a box that had toys in it, police said.

The 11-year-old pointed the gun at Martin and fired, thinking it was a toy, police said.

Martin died at the St. Rose Hospital-Siena campus. During a search, five other handguns and rifles were found in the house, all of which were seized by police.

The 11-year-old is a sibling of Martin’s mother. Police on Monday had said Martin was 5 years old, but the coroner's office said today he was 6.

No one had been charged in the incident as of Monday afternoon.
