A man killed by Metro Police early Friday inside a Walmart store had been trying to buy more than $4,000 worth of merchandise with a dead man’s credit card, according to an arrest report released Monday.

The Clark County Coroner’s Office identified the man as 25-year-old Marc Hull.

The incident unfolded shortly before 4:30 a.m. at the Walmart Supercenter at 3615 S. Rainbow Blvd., near Spring Mountain Road. Police said they received reports of a man and woman trying to use a fraudulent debit or credit card to purchase a large amount of items.

When officers tried to take Hull into custody, police said he began firing, striking Officer Michael Ramirez, 36, multiple times in his bullet-proof vest and left arm. Police returned fire at Hull, who later died from his injuries.

Ramirez has been with Metro since January 2006. Sheriff Doug Gillespie said Friday that Ramirez was doing well and that he looked "forward to seeing him back to work in the near future."

Metro identified the other officers involved in the shooting as John Abel, Corey Staheli and Beaumont Hopson.

Abel, 33, has been with Metro since January 2007; Staheli, 29, has been with Metro since November 2006; and Hopson, 45, has been with Metro since September 2005. All of the officers are assigned to the Patrol Division in Metro's Enterprise Area Command.

Police arrested the woman with Hull, identified as 27-year-old Carrie Reed, in connection with burglary with intent to commit a felony, attempted theft and fraudulent use of a credit card.

Reed and Hull allegedly handed a cashier in the electronics section of the store a credit card in the name of Albert Webster, according to the arrest report. The system rejected the transaction because the amount — about $4,075 — was too high.

Reed allegedly admitted to knowing the card didn’t belong to Hull and that it was possibly fraudulent, police said.

She also had another credit card in her purse, along with several handwritten identity profiles and additional profile information on her phone, according to the arrest report.

Reed told detectives she checked the card’s balance en route to Walmart so they knew how much to spend, police said.

When police ran a records check related to Albert Webster, they discovered he had died in 2000, according to the arrest report.

Reed previously had been arrested for burglary, theft, possession of a controlled substance and obtaining property under false pretenses, police said.

She was booked into the Clark County Detention Center, where she is being held on $30,000 bail, according to jail records.

Police and the Internal Revenue Service are continuing the investigation.
