Police make 22 arrests in ‘Operation Trick-or-Treat’

Police have arrested 22 fugitives, 14 of them on sex-related offenses, in Clark County as part of a sweep to keep the streets safe during the Halloween weekend, according to the U.S. Marshals Service.

“Operation Trick-or-Treat,” a five-day joint law enforcement operation, is focused on tracking down sex offender fugitives and making sure others are in compliance with registration requirements, according to Nevada Child Seekers, a community partner in the effort.

About 90 percent of offenders contacted were in compliance, officials said. Some were deceased or incarcerated, the group said. Information about non-compliant sex offenders from other states has been forwarded to local police or U.S. Marshals in that state, officials said.

The operation ends Friday, but Nevada Child Seekers said police will be out during the weekend. It provided these tips to parents:

• Don’t allow children to trick-or-treat alone.

• Children should never go into homes without a parent’s permission.

• Children should shout and scream if someone tries to grab them.
