Man found dead

A man was found dead early Friday morning at a home that may have been used for growing psilocybin mushrooms, Metro Police said.

Metro Lt. James Weiskopf said police responded to the 800 block of King Richard Ave. about 1 a.m. after a man called 911 and reported that his roommate was unconscious and not breathing.

The fire department also responded and confirmed that the victim, who was about 45 years old, was dead, police said.

“Nothing appeared to be suspicious in nature on the body,” Weiskopf said.

Police said there was an indication that the home might have been being used for cultivating hallucinogenic mushrooms, and detectives from the narcotics division were called to inspect the house.

The Clark County coroner’s office will release the deceased man’s name and cause of death.

No arrests were made. Police said their investigation is continuing.

Police say psilocybin, which is similar to LSD, is becoming more common in the Las Vegas Valley and is turning up at rave parties and nightclubs. Some street names for it include magic mushrooms, sherm, sill cybin and Silly Putty.

Its hallucinogenic effects can last up to six hours, and its street value is about $200 an ounce, police said.
